On March 20, APLMA visited the Honourable Minister of Health, Dr. Dzulkefly Ahmad, as well as Tun Dr. Siti Hasmah binti Haji Mohamad Ali, the wife of Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahatir.
APLMA commended Malaysia on the tremendous progress in fighting malaria, and the Government’s role in supporting neighbouring countries in their path towards elimination.
In 2018, Malaysia recorded zero cases of indigenous human malaria, and the Federation is now on track to eliminate malaria by 2020, well ahead of the 2030 goal. Malaysia success serves as a beacon for the region. Malaysia has shown commitment towards this agenda, not only within its border, but also beyond. In 2009, Malaysia became one of the founding members of the Asia Pacific Malaria Elimination Network and it continues to be an active member to address the challenges of malaria elimination in the region.
In 2019, APLMA will continue working with the Malaysian leadership to further strengthen our collaboration, continue building the momentum towards elimination, and engaging new partners from public and private sectors
