Located in South Asia, Sri Lanka focuses on political and financial commitment for the prevention of re-establishment of malaria. Surveillance and response for malaria is the singular focus of their national programme. Sustaining awareness of malaria among medical practitioners through in-service training, and continued collaboration with medical educators and professional medical associations and colleges is a priority.
Sri Lanka is currently among the countries that have zero indigenous P.falciparum and P.vivax cases. They attained malaria elimination certification from the WHO in 2016.
