Located in Melanesia, the Solomon Islands became a signatory of the APLMA roadmap in 2018.
The Solomon Islands represent 2.6% of the total malaria burden in the Asia Pacific, and report the highest API in the region, at 185.8. Current main challenges include stockouts of testing and treatment supplies, relapse of P. vivax, and poor usage of LLINs. The Ministry of Health and Medical Services has reaffirmed its commitment and aims to revitalize the malaria program and enhance the health system, particularly in rural areas.
One significant initiative undertaken is the revision of the malaria elimination roadmap. This process will involve a comprehensive re-evaluation, incorporating lessons learned, and focusing on sub-national strategies for targeted interventions. The revised plan will adopt a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach, encouraging collaboration across all sectors and communities.
