Afghanistan

Located in South Asia, Malaria control and elimination interventions in Afghanistan are a work in progress.

The country’s main priority is intensification of malaria control interventions in the 46 high malaria burden districts, which includes strengthening malaria case management targeting resident, remote, cross-border populations, and internally displaced people.

Preventive measures such as LLIN distribution among at-risk populations are being scaled-up. Private sector engagement for improved case management and preventative practices, including the improvement of access to services through the engagement of community leaders on malaria and other vector-borne diseases, are underway. Currently among the countries making up 99% of the Asia Pacific’s malaria burden, Afghanistan aims to eliminate malaria by 2035.
